Main Street Volunteers at Ronald McDonald Holcombe House

In August 2022, Main Street volunteered at the Holcombe House(rmhhouston.org/Holcombe-house/), one of four Ronald McDonald Homes in Houston. For more than 30 years, Ronald McDonald House Houston (“RMHH”)  (rmhhouston.org) has been helping families with seriously ill children by allowing parents, who are far from home, to stay close to their hospitalized child and benefit from the comforts of home without incurring hotel and food costs during these difficult times by providing a “home away from home” while their child receives the treatment they need at Texas Medical Center. The Holcombe House has 70 private bedrooms equipped with two queen size beds and a full bath. The House also has a Houston Independent School District school room for patients and school bus transportation for siblings to area public schools. Additionally, families staying at Holcombe House are provided scheduled weekday van service to Texas Medical Center hospitals.

Main Street has supported the RMHH for several years via different charity and volunteer events, but recently, hasn’t been able to volunteer onsite given the population of immunocompromised children the RMHH serves. Main Street was excited to volunteer in person again by participating in the JoyFULL Eats program.  Through JoyFULL Eats, RMHH helps mitigate the challenges caregivers face when trying to find quick and healthy food options while their child is receiving care. Our team catered dinner to the families, residents, and staff of the Holcombe House. The event was supported by 6 Main Street employees who utilized the Main Street Volunteer Time Off (VTO) Program. The volunteers served the food to over 50 families which included preparation and clean-up for the meal.
